Person of the Week: Etienne Russo

»»There is perhaps nothing more exciting during fashion week than an original show, not even the clothing. And out the most memorable show in recent years, a good many of them, from Chanel’s FW 2010 iceberg, Moncler Grenoble’s flashmob performance to Thom Browne’s Halloween themed show, all came from one mastermind, Etienne Russo.

Born in Belgium to Italian parents, Etienne Russo started his early years as a model and barman at the hip Mirano nightclub, where his suggestion of holding weekly art and fashion themed parties made him its artistic director. It was also during one of these events that he went on to know the Antwerp Six, together with whom his career prospered.

After successfully conducting Dries van Noten’s show first show in Paris in 1991, Etienne Russo went on to work with a number of designers including AF Vandervorst, Olivier Theyskens and Angelo Figus, before starting his own company, Villa Eugene.

The splendid productions held by Villa Eugene soon exploded onto the mainstream, attracting Hermès and Chanel as die hard customers, realizing some of the most whimsical venues. In his collaboration with Moncler, Etienne Russo took it to the next level by introducing a number of spontaneous show performances for Moncler Grenoble in New York, at Grand Central in 2011 and Central Park in 2012.««
