»»The first time when I saw Lila Mazurkevich, she was touching up on her work, “My Lustful Friend as a Queen of Jungle”. Using animal figures as snake, lizard, turtle, and alligators as the metaphor, with the naked woman as the main subject, the painting is full with hint of sexual and danger. When I walked into her studio, she pause her work and walked up to me. Black hair, black eye, and the black dress, she is full with mystery, like her origin, Russia.

“I’m a sensitive and hesitating person. I love to ponder among the cruelties of life.” As Lila told me the reason her art usually contained some darkness within them, she reminded me how complicate a human society is. “With the complications this depth, I love to paint out the lust between human in our society.” Lila is the painting master who always reminds us how women struggle with sexual lust and material lust in the society, and how they choose their paths. Is it truly love or simply lost in the sexual world. Lila used her own kind of humor to tell the stories about women through her works.

She never thought she would be an artist be for she turned to 30. As the only child in her family, she was influenced by her designer father, who has loads of magazines and books about arts. Although she always knew she would do something about art, but she chose product design instead of art when she went to college. After two years of trying in the world of design, she realized her interest and became an artist.

Lila has always been a lover of hubbub of people. While London is a classic place of her favorite, the complex of the society is the muse of her paints, because she knew exactly what she’s looking for through the city. As many people thought artists must be romanticists, who hardly work, Lila worked, in fact, longer than most of the people. Usually there’s only one off day throughout the week, because she love painting and that lead her to forget her time. Aside from her work, she also loves to shop and wandering around at downtown. With ideas growing in her mind, she told me, “Life is too short, I’m afraid I cannot finish painting all of them through this lifetime.”««
